Ram River
Every river has it's best times. Every one
has its worst. Thankfully we're not allowed to fish when the Ram is at its
worst, the season is only open from June 16 to October 31. Please put your
trust in us and we will work with you to co-ordinate a time that's best
for your trip, at a time that makes sense to travel to fish this river,
not just when it's convenient to do business.
Like
almost any of Alberta's east slopes of the rocky mountains trout streams,
the Ram has a short window of insect hatches and it coincides with the
open fishing season from June 16 to October 31. Even on opening day each
year there is still ice clinging to the shaded, rocky crevasses in the
canyon which keeps the river cool. The river warms up and the fishing is
reliable at the same time each summer. Please email us and we will
co-ordinate your trip with a good time to visit.
Like the other rivers the Ram
River's hatches are of big bugs and sporadic numbers to start the season
moving into a steady flow of smaller insects as the season marches on into
late summer and fall. Late summer and fall fishing brings shorter windows
of dry fly fishing but the window can be outrageous. Golden stones, drakes, flavs,
pmds, blue winged olives, sally stones, slate duns, hoppers, ants,
and midges are here in abundance. Weather and water permitting,
exceptional results are known to happen on our river.
