Fly Fish Alberta is proud to offer an extremely unique fly fishing destination in the Ram River canyon. We offer multi day helicopter fly in camping/rafting/ guided fly fishing trips; single day wade fly fishing trips; multi day hiking/camping/ guided fly fishing trips. Each offers a different feel. Our heli trips offer a gentler feel as we can fly all gear and a raft for transportation. Our single day trips discover unique water with large cutthroat trout. Our multi day hiking & fly fishing trips offer a hand's on view of this rugged country and get us into wonderful water to fly fish with high numbers or large sizes of cutthroat trout present.

Our rafting, camping, and fly fishing trips are designed to put you on the best reach of the Ram drainage at the time of your trip. Our trip design is to use helicopters to access a remote section of river, and fish for 2 to 5 days. We provide the camp gear, food, guided fly fishing, and all camp set up. You simply arrive with a sleeping bag, clothes/personal effects, and fly fishing gear.

We fly to a remote location and while the support staff sets up the trip, a guide hosts you on the first leg of the fly fishing. From there, it's a trip of using the rafts as transport from reach to reach, setting up camp and wade fishing above and below our daily camp location. This allows us to hit the best water the river has to offer.

The trip requires logistical planning due to its remote nature and ground support through our guides makes this trip happen. It is a beautiful location and very good fishing, and we work hard to make the trip as enjoyable as possible.

Our Canyon Treks are designed for people in at least mild condition, able to hike with a full pack for up to 4 hours. Trips can be 2 to 6 days duration and can include or disclude food and gear being provided in the price of the trip. Back packing has a different feel and each group/guest can decide how much or how little is included in the trip. Regardless, you will have a guide for the trip that knows the river and canyon extremely well. Guide Dave Jensen does the majority of these trips. You will hike to a camping location and wade fish up and downstream from camp. If you choose the longer trip option (3 to 5 days is ideal) you will move camp at an interval based upon how much of the river canyon you wish to see, how much fishing you wish to do. Prices are based upon your trip - again, how much we offer in terms of gear, food, etc. If you wish to do most of the preparation, the rate will be cheaper and we act as a hiking and fishing guide for your trip and the rate cheaper. Daily Walk & Wade Trips

Daily walk and wade trips to the Ram River drainage are available. The Ram is a 2 hour drive from our Red Deer base and there is some travel cost to appreciate. We can co-ordinate a pre-arranged meeting time and location on the river, at an area campground, in Nordegg, or in Rocky Mountain House.
You may wish to book 2 days or more to maximize your time as the river is a special place.
Time on the water is spent at prime time for cutthroat trout, from about 11 am through 7 pm, though some days will be longer.
We guide wade trips from limited access locations and we will do our best to take you to light fishing pressure reaches, where we are likely to see no other anglers, if only 1 or 2 through the day on the water.
